Keith Layman and Joe Wiegand, the managing partners and owners of Apple Tree Financial Group and Apple Tree Asset Management, are driven by their Christian faith to go beyond mere investment management. Through prayer, scripture reading, and extensive research, Apple Tree Asset Management has developed a Biblically Responsible Investing (BRI) strategy. This is a unique actively managed approach that allows individuals to invest in equities, mutual funds, or exchange-traded funds (ETFs) that exclude companies in industries conflicting with Biblical beliefs. It also excludes companies that may not be in those industries but financially and otherwise support such industries. The stocks, funds, and ETFs utilized in our BRI management strategies tithe the fees they collect, to various missions and ministries around the world. Apple Tree Asset Management also tithes to the managing partners church homes as well as donate towards missions in the US and Africa.
The stocks, funds, and ETFs utilized in our BRI portfolios undergo rigorous screening to make sure the stocks in the funds and ETFs align with specific ethical criteria rooted in Biblical values. These screening processes meticulously exclude companies engaged in activities contrary to Biblical beliefs, such as pornography, alcohol, abortion, same sex lifestyles, or certain media (like violent video games), that conflict with Biblical principles. Additionally, these screenings also remove stocks that provide financial support and donations to organizations that oppose or contradict Biblical beliefs. By employing these stringent screening processes, our investments are thoughtfully chosen to align the funds with Biblical truths.
